The Importance of Dental Exams & X-Rays

Regular exams give Dr. Emmy a chance to assess your teeth, gums, bite, and oral health. X-rays are recommended when they can help reveal concerns that are not visible during an examination. We will explain findings and any next steps.

Exams & X-Rays

Keeping Your Smile Healthy

At your visit, Dr. Emmy will examine your oral health and discuss whether digital X-rays are appropriate. The findings help guide a plan that reflects your needs, from prevention to any restorative care.

Preventive Care

Fluoride Treatments
Professional fluoride treatment places a concentrated fluoride product on the teeth to help strengthen enamel and reduce cavity risk. The type, timing, and aftercare depend on the product used and your individual risk. Children and adults may benefit when Dr. Emmy recommends it.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a protective coating that may help reduce cavities on the chewing surfaces of back teeth. Dr. Emmy will recommend them when appropriate and explain how they are placed and checked over time.
Periodontal Care
Periodontal care addresses inflammation and disease affecting the gums and supporting tissues. Scaling and root planing, sometimes called a deep cleaning, may be recommended depending on your examination. The number of visits depends on your needs.
Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays can reveal information that is not visible during a clinical examination, such as decay between teeth, bone levels, roots, and developing or impacted teeth. Dr. Emmy recommends images only when they are clinically useful and selects the type and area based on your history, symptoms, examination, and previous images.

Why Might I Need Dental Exams & X-Rays?

An examination shows what can be seen and felt in the mouth; an X-ray can provide additional information when clinically necessary. The right images and timing vary by patient, so Dr. Emmy considers your history, current symptoms, examination findings, cavity and gum-disease risk, and available previous images before making a recommendation.

What to Expect During a Dental Exam & X-Rays

Your visit begins with a review of your concerns and health history, followed by an examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and other oral tissues. If an X-ray is appropriate, our team will explain which image is recommended and why before it is taken.

Throughout the exam, your comfort is a priority. You can expect our team to discuss any findings, address your questions, and collaborate on a personalized treatment plan if needed. This comprehensive approach allows us to catch potential problems early and tailor our care to your specific needs.

Before you leave, our team will review the important findings, answer questions, and explain any preventive, restorative, or follow-up options. The goal is a clear plan based on what we find—not unnecessary routine imaging.
